A little girl and her mom. Almost all the grown women wear the head scarves. |
My brother and his wife, Dennis and Gina, sent me a "Flat Stanley" by email for their nephew. If you haven't read any "Flat Stanley" books for kids, you must! They are so fun.
Well, the idea was that I would take Flat Stanley around Casa and take photos of him with things here. Then they will send these photos onto their nephew and he can share them with his class in Kansas City!
So, a couple of my girlfriends and I headed out last Saturday and had so much fun introducing Stanley to Moroccans around Casablanca!!
Ready, here we go....
Stanley is a lot like me....he loved the blue sky and palm trees! |
He was wishing we had brought along a picnic to the beach! People rent these chairs and umbrellas and sit there all day long! |
These little boys were playing soccer on the beach and were happy to let us take a photo of them with Stanley! |
These are the two friends that helped me with the photos.....Kaylee from Michigan and Judy from Ohio! Kaylee is our school nurse and Judy is the 7th/8th grade English teacher. |
Two ladies on the beach. They asked us to photo them with their camera, so we did. Then we asked them if we could photo them with Stanley. They said yes and liked it so much they asked if we would take one of them on their camera too!! :) |
This is Stanley on the sidewalk of the cornish. Notice the KFC sign in the background!! We have 4 or 5 US chain food restaurants! The cornish is where everyone goes to walk and look at the beach on the weekends. |
Here Stanley was checking out people's laundry hanging out their windows...a very common sight! |
Stanley was trying to hide from me in the bushes in front of the Grand Mosque. |
This is the Grand Mosque. It's real name is Hassan II Mosque. It cost over $800 million dollars to build. The building can hold 25,000 Islam worshippers at one time. It is actually built on a platform out over the Pacific Ocean. It is the tallest structure in Morocco and has the tallest minaret in the world! It is SO amazing to see and is beautiful inside and outside!! |
Here is Stanley in front of the Moroccan flag. It is all red with a green 6-point star in the middle. |
Aren't the hand carved tiles amazing? |
I'm surprised Kaylee didn't get arrested for this one. This is one of the many fountains at the mosque. Kaylee climbed inside so it would look like Stanley was standing all by himself! :) |
Can you find Stanley? He is peeking out from one of the huge pillars outside of the mosque. |
Here Stanley is pointing out the Moroccan ladies dresses. They are called a jellaba. The men and women wear them. (They kind of look like pajamas!) :) The people are looking over the edge at the ocean, but it is low tide, so the rocks are showing instead of the water. |
Stanley was so impressed by how LARGE the doors to the mosque are compared to the size of the people! |
Next we stopped on my favorite street in Casa. I'm not sure what the real name is...we call is "Cow Street" because of all the cows and horses you can see in the middle of the road all day long. These cows are actually eating garbage from a garbage can! |
Look at the yummy fresh oranges for sale along Cow Street!! YUMMMMMMY! |
these are pretty awesome, mom. risk of arrest at the grand mosque *definitely* seems high -- well done.
