Flat Stanley...part 2

Next on the list of fun spots in Casa was Rick's Cafe! It is from the movie "Casablanca"! Really, the movie was filmed in Hollywood. But, after the movie became famous, they moved the bar from the movie over here and made a copy of Rick's Cafe. It is so fun to eat here. They have the piano player playing "Here's Looking at you Kid" and everything!!

Oops....got ahead of myself in the last blog....here is Cow Street again! Only the sheep are out this time!!

Stanley got a little worried on this one....I think that sheep was actually going to try to eat Stanley!! YIKES!

These are some neighborhood children that wanted to meet Stanley! Aren't they cute?

There are the cows eating garbage again! :)  Wasn't Kaylee brave to take Stanley out to meet the cow?

These are the nice men that let me check out their oranges! They have lots of these little wagons with all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables for sale up and down this street.

Stanley had a lot of fun at our next stop. We went to the local grocery store called the Marjane. We park up above and take this cool escalator (with NO steps) down to the groceries. On the way up the carts have magnets on the wheels, so you just push the cart on the escalator and up it goes!! Pretty cool, huh?

This is one of the advertisements at the Marjane.

Stanley LOVED riding the kiddie rides with a little girl!

There are so many choices at the grocery store....but different choices than you might see in the US. This section is full of olives. There are probably 8 different types of olives you can buy.

This is fun....this is how you buy your spices. Instead of in the cute little containers for $2 or $3, one sniffs to see which spice it is you want to buy, scoop up some, put it in a bag, take it to the man to weigh and off you go.... and only pay 40 or 50 cents!

Because Casa is right on the ocean, we have lots of fresh seafood for sale in the store!

This was our friendly check out guy!

He liked Stanley and wanted to know all about Stanley. The man spoke French and Judy knows a LOT of French, so she explained to him who Stanley was and what we were up to today!

On the way in and out of the grocery store is a cool place for kids to hang out and play. Stanley wanted to go in and check it out too, but the kids were all too busy to notice him!

This time it was Judy who was the brave one. Most outside cafes are only for men. The men all sit at tables that face out towards the street. They sit and drink Moroccan tea (very strong mint and sugar tea) for hours on end. Judy went up and talked to the men (which is something women do NOT do here) and introduced Stanley to them. They were actually very kind and said they would pose for a photo with Stanley!!!

Our next stop was a crazy one. Kaylee wanted to buy some fabric to make a jellaba. We went to a souk (it is a small version of a medina, which is kind of like our version of a mall). So here is Stanley standing in a display of silver tea pots for sale.

This little girl's mom was also looking at fabric.

Wow...again...sooooo many choices!

Often times the medinas and souks are not my favorite places because the hallways are very narrow, the people are all pushing and the smells are not great.  They don't have bathrooms in the souk (so you know what that means) and then they clean fish in those tight quarters and that smells icky too!

On the way out of the souk there is another strong smell....this guy is selling boiled snails!

Wow....we were tired and hungry for some American food, so we headed over to the new Papa John's Pizza place!!

And that was the end of the day with Stanley. I hope you learned a little more about Morocco than you knew before! We certainly had a fun day!! Shook-rahn! (Thank you!)
